What is it?
Why are we having it? The elders have decided to establish HU because of the command of Scripture that we “grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 3:18), and “become imitators of God,” (Ephesians 5:1) and that, like the Bereans, we receive “the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily,” (Acts 17:11) and that the words of the Lord be on our hearts and taught to our children (Deuteronomy 6:6-7), and that we meditate on the Scriptures “day and night” (Psalm 1:2).
HU classes are designed to be piece in the puzzle to help accomplish these ends. While our gospel-saturated, Scripture-filled worship services are essential for our individual and corporate discipleship, we believe it is necessary to provide an additional forum to explore some of the more specific and intricate aspects of the Bible and Christian theology and their practical implications for our daily lives. Our prayer is that through ongoing, committed attendance at these classes, the members and regular attendees of our congregation might grow in their understanding of Scripture’s content and implication, encourage a biblical relationship with other Christians through vital participation with them in the local church, and to develop in people a biblical commitment to personal growth and ministry.
Who is encouraged to attend? Everyone is invited to attend and participate in these classes. Since only the nursery will be available during the HU classes, Sunday School-aged children will be attending the classes as well. We hope to develop Sunday School classes for our children during HU class time in the future.
When will we begin? We plan to begin our first HU class on Sunday, March 1 from 10:45-11:30.
